Borrowdale to Langdale
Low Level Route
This route effectively follows the Cumbria Way path right to the ODG. Just beyond Galleny Force, take the right turn and head into the Langstrath valley passing Blackmoss Pot which is a deep (30 feet) pool good for swimming on a hot summers day!
From here, the path follows the course of Langstrath Beck with Stonethwaite Fell to the right. At the foot of Stake Pass, the steep path leads up to Stake pass passing through surroundings which appear bleak but are reputed to have yielded traces of occupation by neolithic man. This area is a significant watershed, for until now all the water flows north or west to join the Solway Firth where as from now it flows south to Morecambe Bay.
At the top, descend down the other side into Mickledon at the head of the Langdale valley. The path descending into Mickledon is steep and follows a zig zag course probably dating from the use of the path as a packhorse trail. At the bottom of the path, turn left and go over the wooden footbridge to then start a pleasant walk down the valley. Admire the towering peaks of the Langdale Pikes to the left before arriving at the ODG.
Total Route Mileage - approx 7.5 miles
